OPEC does, and they want all of us to believe that the reason prices are high is because of our domestic biofuels production.
Today, the spot price of ethanol is $2.41 per gallon on the CBOT. The spot price of gas is $3.23. Since the price of Ethanol is LOWER than the price of gas, then how on earth could mixing it into the gas supply INCREASE the price of gas?
The answer is that it can’t. The only way Ethanol can increase the price of gas is if Ethanol costs MORE than gas, not LESS.
Anyway, here is a link to the article on GoodFuel.org where you can get more info on OPEC’s latest ridiculousness: www.goodfuels.org/opec.
There is also a link to the Open Letter that World BioFuels Industry published in the Financial Times refuting the deceptions being spread around by OPEC.

I’ve been going along here thinking that the reason my corn flakes are costing $6 per box is because Ethanol is driving up the price of grain. I mean, that’s what I saw on the evening news. So, it must be true, right?
Oops. Looks like there’s another side to the story. Probably the oil lobby has succeeded in influencing reporters not to tell us both sides.
DarkPalmer has an interesting article about Ethanol in which he makes the case that the reason for the rise in grain prices is because of the rise in gas prices. And that if we had more alternatives to oil, that the price of grain would go down, not up.
Interesting.
I think having more alternatives is a good idea.
A group called Driving Ethanol (www.drivingethanol.org) is currently running a petition to bring attention to these issues. You can get involved by signing the petition here:

We’ve been through this before. Diamler Benz bought Chrysler, and all we got were crappy Mercedes. Even, what? 2 or 3 years after they sold Chrysler, they are only now starting to get back to their roots.
Let’s hope the same doesn’t happen to InBev’s products.
Funny comparison of this was what ClarkSmart had to say on his blog (http://clarksmart.wordpress.com/). Getting bought out by InBev is kindof like getting beat up by Halle Berry. Ha ha, that’s funny stuff.
